We've attempted "W" again. Now we've added an animal and the actual letter as visual-aides. The conversation was a little different this time around though.
Me: Look, Son. Wuh, Wuh, Whale. "W." Whale. Son: What?! Me: See? A "W." Son. No, no, no. Not double-you. Just double-vee. Me: Oh, yeah! I'm so silly. Double-vee. Son: Silly Mommy. Whale. Double-vee.
